Bayer

This operation is part of Bayer’s Crop Science division, whose goal is the continuous improvement of the seeds offered by the company. It is located in Cañas and serves as a world-class innovation and agricultural research center for new varieties of biotechnological cotton since 1997.

The agricultural innovation process at this Bayer facility is entirely dedicated to commercial evaluation trials of cotton for the United States. This involves the export of more than 50 thousand ‘candidates,’ which will undergo the genetic improvement process to identify options that meet the requirements of producers.

Bayer has farms in La Palma de Abangares and Chomes de Puntarenas since 2019, where they select promising materials and increase seed production for varieties in the final stages of research. Annually, this program exports over 40 tons of seeds, ensuring a stable supply to the U.S. market.

Over the last 25 years, the station has invested 9.5 billion colones in equipment and infrastructure in the area.
