Boston Scientific’s history in Costa Rica began in 2003 with a workforce of 17 people. Since then, the company has evolved to become the largest employer in the medical device manufacturing industry in Costa Rica with more than 7,650 employees.

The company is currently the only medical device manufacturer with a presence in all four major provinces of the country: Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, and San José.

ICU Medical​

ICU Medical is a renowned global leader in the manufacturing of medical devices, known for its extensive product range for drug administration and infusion systems.

The company initiated its operations in Costa Rica in 1999 and has since maintained a significant presence in the country through a specialized manufacturing plant focused on the production of drug administration systems, infusion kits, and smart infusion pumps.

Through multiple expansions, ICU Medical has consolidated 13 manufacturing plants into a single location in Costa Rica, establishing itself as one of the primary exporters of drug administration systems in the country and globally.

Comprehensive Service: The manufacturing plant in Costa Rica maintains complete vertical integration, featuring 10 clean rooms, 63 molding presses (used for plastic and silicone molding), 5 extruders, extensive automation capabilities, a maintenance workshop, and metalworking facilities for its equipment, along with an in-house sterilization system.

The Costa Rica operation’s specialization is so well-established that infusion pumps are programmed in a multitude of languages to adapt to their final use in hospitals and clinics worldwide. Additionally, the company provides comprehensive technical support to end-users for all its products.
