Heredia, Costa Rica, June 24, 2026. Prent Corporation, a U.S.-based global leader in the development of custom thermoformed packaging, trays, and components for the medical industry, has begun construction of its new manufacturing facility at the Savia mixed-use development in Heredia. The expansion is expected to double the company’s production capacity in Costa Rica.
The new facility will span 4,500 square meters and will house six advanced thermoforming machines. It will also incorporate a new production line capable of manufacturing trays up to 72 inches in length. In addition, the facility will feature expanded storage areas and a Class 7 cleanroom designed to meet the stringent environmental control standards required for medical packaging production.
“Prent is honored to expand our operations in Costa Rica. This new facility reflects our strong commitment to our Costa Rican community, our collaborators, and the customers we serve. We’re proud to contribute to the country’s growing business landscape by staying close to our customers and deepening the strategic partnerships that drive shared success”, said Wilfredo Mercado, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing of Prent Corporation.
Through this new facility, the company expects to create between 30 and 40 new jobs across both specialized and operational roles. Recruitment is expected to begin three to four months prior to the facility’s opening, which is scheduled for mid-2027.
“The expansion of Prent Corporation in Costa Rica reflects the evolution our country has undergone as a platform for advanced manufacturing and high value-added supply chains. Beyond job creation and the growth of a single company, this investment strengthens the local capabilities that support the medical device industry, one of the country’s leading drivers of exports and foreign direct investment. At COMEX, we remain committed to fostering a competitive environment that promotes innovation, the development of specialized talent, and the establishment of increasingly sophisticated operations capable of generating greater opportunities for people”, said Arianna Arce, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade.
“The continued growth of Costa Rica’s medical device industry is driving investment beyond manufacturing operations themselves. The expansion of specialized suppliers such as Prent reflects the evolution of a sector that today includes more than 100 companies -including 13 of the world’s top 25 medical device manufacturers- and generates more than 63,000 direct jobs. In this context, the company’s new investment strengthens the capabilities that support one of the country’s leading export sectors and contributes to the development of an increasingly specialized and competitive ecosystem”, remarked Laura López, CEO of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER).
Prent Corporation’s operation in Costa Rica represents the company’s eighth greenfield investment globally, meaning an investment developed from the ground up. The company began operations in the country in 2014 and has since become part of the medical device industry’s supply chain. A decade later, Prent is expanding its presence in Costa Rica through the construction of a new 4,500-square-meter facility.
This expansion reflects the confidence companies place in Costa Rica as a competitive investment destination, as well as the conditions the country offers to foster innovation, advanced manufacturing, and the sustainable growth of business operations.
“Prent’s decision to establish its new operations at Savia reflects the confidence that global companies continue to place in Costa Rica and in the country’s ability to compete in high-value industries. At Portafolio Inmobiliario, we are proud to contribute to the development of ecosystems that facilitate investment, support the creation of quality jobs, and strengthen national competitiveness. This project represents another opportunity to drive economic development and create long-term value for the country”, said Alfredo Volio, Chief Executive Officer of Portafolio Inmobiliario.
