San José. July 9, 2024. The Promoter of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) will participate, along with 17 Costa Rican companies, in SEMICON West 2024, an event that brings together companies from the semiconductor sector on July 9, 10 and 11, at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.
The event will be hosting more than 600 companies, as well as sessions on the latest trends and innovations in sustainability, supply chain management, workforce development and other critical subjects in the industry.
Alongside PROCOMER, the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) will also be participating together with the companies La Lima Free Zone, Ingenya Consultores, Arias Law, The Green Park, Evolution Free Zone, EY, 360 Integral, Lang & Asociados, InnovaPark, Bakertilly, Portafolio Inmobiliario, Meridia, INGENIERIA DE LAS AGUAS, BLP, TMF, The Tenant Advisors and Infotree.
Last March, Costa Rica announced its plan for attracting semiconductor companies, focusing on four pillars: talent, incentives, investment attraction and regulatory improvement.
The Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Indiana Trejos, who is also participating in the event, stated that “the designation of Costa Rica as the first strategic ally of the United States worldwide under the Chips and Science Law is a clear recognition of the trajectory and potential that the country has in the semiconductor sector. Our participation in SEMICON West allows us to present the joint efforts we have carried out as part of the implementation of the Roadmap. Furthermore, it demonstrates the country’s commitment to attracting investment from this sector in order to generate high quality employment, promote innovation, and participate in high-value processes. “This event positions us as a relevant player in the global semiconductor ecosystem and consolidates us as an ally for foreign companies.”
On the other hand, Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER, pointed out that “Costa Rica is a strategic partner for the semiconductor industry and we will be promoting the creation of key meetings to present our value proposition to companies in the industry. The recognized political stability and history of peace, legal security for the investor, as well as appealing incentives, combined with human talent and a robust ecosystem of local suppliers are all factors that make this country offer more attractive for investment. Moreover, sustainability is our main differentiator and one of our greatest strengths.”
Currently, Costa Rica is home to more than 450 multinational companies. Intel, a leading developer of process technology and semiconductor manufacturer that arrived in the country more than 25 years ago, is among the success stories linked to semiconductors.
Qorvo, dedicated to the manufacturing of radio frequency filters, Teradyne, which offers test solutions for semiconductors, electronic systems and wireless devices, and R&D Altanova, specialized in engineering, design, manufacturing and assembly services and manufacturing of advanced technology printed circuit boards are three other examples of success stories in the semiconductor industry in the country.
As a member of SEMI, the main international association of microelectronics companies in the world, PROCOMER is participating in SEMICON West, together by 17 strategic allies. With more than 3,000 member companies, SEMI seeks to foster connection, collaboration and innovation, aiding the semiconductor industry in the development and implementation of advanced technology worldwide.
