Costa Rica attracts new investment in medical devices: CathX Medical to build a new plant and create more than 100 jobs

  • The new facility will support the design, development, and manufacture of complex catheter subassemblies, including select thermoplastic extrusion capabilities, and will be located in Zona Franca La Lima, in Cartago
  • The company will open opportunities for engineers, technicians, and operators specialized in medical device manufacturing

San José, May 13, 2026. The U.S.-based CathX Medical, a Zeus company, will establish a new facility in Costa Rica to support the design, development, and manufacture of subassemblies for complex catheters – minimally invasive medical devices used across a wide range of clinical procedures, from treating strokes in the brain to correcting abnormal heart rhythms – strengthening long-term manufacturing continuity and expanding support for customers developing next-generation medical devices.

With this new facility, which will be in La Lima Free Zone in Cartago, CathX Medical expects to generate more than 100 new jobs over the next three years. The new facility is expected to be operational in Q2 of 2027.

“We are proud to expand our global operations footprint with this new facility in Costa Rica,” noted Zeus CEO Paddy O’Brien, “reinforcing our commitment to innovation, quality, and long-term partnership. This investment strengthens our ability to support complex catheter technologies while expanding our presence closer to the customers and medical device markets we serve. It also reflects our confidence in the region’s talent, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and long-term strategic importance”.

The new CathX Medical facility in the country will cover an area of 3,000 square meters and will open positions in engineering, technical, and operational roles, with an emphasis on profiles with knowledge and experience in extrusion processes, braiding, and complex catheter assembly.

The company is currently recruiting personnel. Interested candidates can apply by sending their resume to [email protected]. Among the requirements, having a valid visa and passport is preferred.

“Zeus Medical’s decision to establish a new operation in Costa Rica through its CathX Medical division reflects the technical talent and manufacturing expertise that distinguish our life sciences ecosystem. From the Ministry of Foreign Trade, we appreciate the confidence placed in Costa Rica and reaffirm our commitment to continue promoting a modern and competitive investment climate focused on trade and investment facilitation”, said Indiana Trejos, Minister of Foreign Trade.

Laura López, CEO of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), noted that: Costa Rica continues to consolidate its position as a medical device’s hub, attracting investments that generate value added and employment. Zeus Medical’s decision to establish an operation for its CathX Medical division in the country reflects the strength of our ecosystem, which today includes more than 100 companies, as well as the experience accumulated in advanced manufacturing processes that position Costa Rica as a strategic partner for this type of operation. These conditions enable us to evolve toward increasingly sophisticated, higher value-added processes”.
