Costa Rica showcases its medical device industry’s capabilities and leadership at the MedTech Conference 2026

  • The Minister of Foreign Trade and PROCOMER are attending the leading annual U.S. medical technology conference, held October 18–21 in Boston.

San José, October 19, 2026. Costa Rica is participating in The MedTech Conference 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts, to showcase the strength and leadership of its medical device ecosystem. Led by Minister of Foreign Trade Indiana Trejos and Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), the country’s participation aims to attract new investment, encourage reinvestment and strengthen the local supplier network supporting medical device manufacturing.

Organized by AdvaMed, the leading U.S. medical technology industry association, the conference runs October 18–21 and brings together representatives from 1,800 companies across more than 40 countries. The agenda covers artificial intelligence, digital health, manufacturing, supply chains, regulation and investment.

“Costa Rica has established itself as a trusted partner to the global medical device industry, one of the world’s most sophisticated and demanding sectors. Our participation in The MedTech Conference 2026 gives us an opportunity to showcase the strength of our ecosystem and the highly specialized talent that sets our country apart, while deepening our engagement with key industry stakeholders. The relationship we have built with AdvaMed also provides a valuable platform for collaboration on initiatives that enhance competitiveness and strengthen the regulatory environment this industry requires,” said Minister of Foreign Trade Indiana Trejos.

Laura López, CEO of PROCOMER, added: “Our country has developed the capabilities to manufacture highly complex medical devices. Costa Rica serves more than 17 therapeutic areas and manufactures over 60 types of devices, while more than 30% of companies produce Class III devices, which are subject to more stringent regulatory requirements and oversight. At this conference, we want to showcase that ecosystem directly to the executives making expansion and reinvestment decisions, and create opportunities that strengthen manufacturing, the supplier network and skilled employment in Costa Rica.”

Costa Rica’s medical device industry arrives at the conference with a well-established manufacturing base. In 2025, medical device exports totaled US$10.927 billion, accounting for 48% of the country’s goods exports. Exports through August 2026 have already reached $7.286 billion. The country is also home to more than 100 companies backed by foreign direct investment in the sector, employing over 63,000 people, and exports 164 types of products to 88 markets.

The Costa Rican delegation will also have a national booth at the Medtech Campus, where it will meet with industry executives. Participating Costa Rican companies include Portafolio Inmobiliario, Ingenya, Davivienda and Zona Franca La Lima, all listed in PROCOMER’s directory of service providers for investors.

The conference connects Costa Rica with senior executives from an industry in which the country has extensive manufacturing experience and specialized capabilities. This participation is part of PROCOMER’s strategy to promote Costa Rica as an investment destination, generate investment leads and support companies exploring opportunities to establish operations in the country.
