- New facilities to support advanced manufacturing of cardiovascular and urology surgical devices
Heredia, Costa Rica – May 8, 2025 – Viant, a global medical device design and manufacturing services provider, announced the expansion of its operations in Costa Rica with the inauguration of two new state-of-the-art facilities in the Metro Free Zone, Barreal de Heredia. Backed by a $45 million investment, the expansion is expected to create more than 1,000 new jobs across operations, technical, manufacturing and administrative functions over the next two years.
The new facilities, totaling nearly 7,000 square meters, are dedicated to the production of specialized medical devices for cardiovascular and urology interventions. They also house administrative and operational functions to support Viant’s continued growth in the region.
“With this expansion, we celebrate 20 years of continuous growth and innovation in Costa Rica,” said Kevin Quirós, Senior Director of Operations at Viant Costa Rica. “This milestone strengthens Viant’s position as a trusted global partner and underscores Costa Rica’s strategic importance within Viant’s global network. The new jobs created will significantly contribute to local economic growth and further strengthen the country’s vibrant medical device ecosystem.”
“The inauguration of these new Viant Medical facilities reaffirms Costa Rica’s status as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing. This accomplishment is a testament to the collaborative efforts of both the public and private sectors, Procomer’s commitment to fostering national talent and productive networks, and the atmosphere of trust we have developed. Prominent companies such as Viant invest in our nation because they recognize the conducive conditions for innovation and growth,” stated Stephan Brunner Neibig, Vice President of the Republic.
Manuel Tovar, Minister of Foreign Trade, said: “Viant’s decision to expand its operations in Costa Rica confirms the strength of our ecosystem for the manufacture of medical devices. The presence of leading companies in the country responds to the combination of specialized talent, competitive environment and a public policy aimed at promoting high-value investment. Costa Rica will continue to be a strategic ally for the growth of this industry.”

The new production lines began operations in February following completion of equipment installation and validation processes. Both buildings feature ISO-certified cleanrooms, production areas, laboratories, and administrative support.

Currently, this industry includes more than 95 multinational companies, generates over 58,000 direct jobs, and accounts for 46% of Costa Rica’s total exports as of February this year. Continued investments by companies like Viant reflect the confidence placed in our talent and in the capabilities, we offer for the development of advanced, high-value manufacturing.”
